Description
As part of eco-centric art (neo-materialism) and inspired by her diamantaire (diamond cutter) late grandfather, S.P. Harper paints and sculpts abstract geometrics using recycled and reclaimed materials, synthesizing historical and contemporary styles by mixing the classical tradition of still-life painting with modernism. Through reforming and re-employing materials, Harper’s work reduces, reuses and up-cycles. Eternal flames re-emerge in the facets of jewels which reflect and transfix. After attending University of Southern California (BFA), studying with Paul Jenkins in Paris and attending ArtCenter, Harper spent 12 years in New York City before returning to Los Angeles to teach and practice art.
