Description
Richard Slechta’s art practice examines the paradox between structure and nature, between the way images keep us constrained and still invite infinite perspectives. What energizes his studio practice is looking at the behaviors of natural forces: pressures of geological formations, influence of gravity and flow of currents. He explores systems and networks that echo the forces of nature, not necessary mimic nature itself.
Slechta’s light-based work tests the belief that traditional methods don’t necessitate traditional results. Using one of the first camera-less photographic processes developed, he uses the behavior of light and its interactions with matter as a means to inform our understanding of the systems of the natural world.
