F. Luis Mora: America’s First Hispanic Master (1874-1940) – Hardcover
Author: Lynne Pauls Baron
Publicaiton: Falk Art Reference, Madison, CT, 2008
This is the first book ever written about F. Luis Mora (1874-1940). It is the compelling story of a Hispanic painter born in Uruguay in 1874, who became one of the leading American artists of his generation. It chronicles his life and art, with 350 plates, half in color, many that have never been seen by the public. Mora won almost every award that was possible for an American artist, while never forgetting his Hispanic roots. The book examines his artistic goal, to incorporate the techniques of Spanish Old Masters into his American painting. It also discusses his close relatives were the Cuban Bacardi family, famous for its rum. Finally, the book delves into his personal and economic despair during the Great Depression, and it answers the most relevant question: Why was this highly awarded artist dropped from American art history? The book includes essays by Laurene Buckley, Ph.D.; M. Elizabeth Boone, Ph.D.; and Peter Hastings Falk.
