This book is a monumental achievement that took twenty years to complete- a biographical dictionary of 1000 women artists, all either painters, graphic artists, or sculptors, who worked in any style, active in the American West between the 1840’s and 1980. The entries in the main text of the book are carefully researched and well-written, detailed accounts of each artist’s life, with special attention given to her portrayal of western subject matter. A selected exhibition history, locations of the artist’s work in public collections, and references are also given.
