MONROVIA, CA – Moran’s is warming up the fall auction season with a fine selection of works on paper in their Prints & Multiples auction. From Picasso to Warhol, Jeremy Blake to Richard Diebenkorn, there is a little something for every collector to be found in the auction. The sale will be followed by a selection of art, silver, and furnishings in their 20th Century Art + Design auction following this sale at 2pm on November 19th.

Prints from the 20th centuries leading artists dominate the offerings at the auction. The Witch, from Myths by the incomparable Andy Warhol steels the show with a cackling Margaret Hamilton in full-tilt Wicked Witch of the West. The work is sure to bring $35,000-45,000 at the block. A colorful Marc Chagall print, Le Grand Paysan, fills the space with images of village life and is expected to bring $7,000-9,000. A gorgeous Richard Diebenkorn color aquatint, Folsom Street Variation III takes inspiration from the titular San Francisco street and comes to the block with a $20,000-30,000 estimate.

Ceramic works from Picasso have grown exponentially in popularity over the years. Quatre Visages, a pitcher with an endearingly happy expression comes in its original box and is sure to bring $7,000-9,000. A platter, Tête de chèvre de profil, centers a goat’s profile is accented by built-up layers of slip forming the outline of the head and adorned with quick shiny brushstrokes on a matte terracotta-colored ground. The platter is sure to find an eager buyer when it comes to the block with an $8,000-12,000 estimate. Another pitcher, Femme, is one of the most popular forms from Picasso’s work with Madoura and should easily bring $XX.

Photographs are sure to make a big impact in the sale this year. Part photograph, part print, but 100% hauntingly beautiful, Jeremy Blake’s digital C-print Winchester: Lord Jemson’s Flat is a rare and wonderful example of the artist’s work and is sure to bring $6,000-8,000 at the block. A touchstone in fashion photography, Horst P. Horst’s Mainbocher Corset, Paris would make a wonderful addition to any collection and should sell within the $12,000-18,000 estimate. A fujicolor archive print of Sharbat Gula, Afghan Girl, Pakistan is arguably one of the most iconic images of the last century and the most famous covers National Geographic ever produced. The stunning print comes to the block with a $12,000-18,000 estimate.

Moran’s is ending the Fall auction season on a high note with Fine Jewelry & Timepieces and Studio Jewelry along with a selection of Luxury, Couture & Accessories on Tuesday, December 10th. The Traditional Collector is sure to end the holiday auction season on a high note with a curated selection of lots coming to the block on December 15th. 2020 will bring a fresh slate of auctions including the Legacy Auction of the Cindy Tietze-Hodosh and Stuart Hodosh collection.
