MONROVIA, CA – Moran’s is poised to bring 240 works of art to market in their Studio Fine Art auction on June 23rd. Coming off the success of their recent 20th Century Art + Design auction, Studio Fine Art will feature a wide array of Modern and Contemporary fine art from leading artists. A curated selection of American and California fine art is rounded out by a variety of European works, all at approachable price points.

Post-War and Contemporary works of art abound in June’s sale. A colorful print from Corita Kent is sure to appeal to her collectors and is estimated to sell in the $600-900 range. An unusual view of Napa from Woodward Payne is one of Moran’s favorites and is expected to bring $1,500-2,500 at the block. “No. 117” executed in 1959 from famed Spanish artist Luis Feito López is a dramatic work in contrasting tones of black, gray, and white and was exhibited in 1959 at the inaugural Paris Biennale. The mixed media work is estimated to sell between $30,000-50,000. A moody image of a bather emerging from the water by Ted Gilien is coming to the block just in time for the summer and is slated to bring $1,500-2,500.

Collectors of California fine art will find plenty of tempting works in the Studio Fine Art auction as well. A superb Eyvind Earle serigraph with one of the artist’s quintessentially detailed oak trees will begin the sale with an approachable $300-500 estimate. Bay Area artist Jack Laycox captures the famously foggy summers of San Francisco with his watercolor and gouache featuring the Palace of Fine Arts with gray skies looming overhead. The work is estimated to bring $500-700 at the block. Mabel Alvarez, one of the art department’s favorite artists, contributes to the sale with a beautifully painted still life of citrus fruits and is estimated to bring $2,000-3,000.

Claude Lacaze (1938-* French), “Woman in Red Dress”
European artists feature prominently in the auction. A beautiful Jean Vollet painting of “Chateau de Sully (Loiret),” evokes the fine brushwork of Georges Seurat. The work is estimated to bring $400-600 at the block. A stunning portrait of a woman in a red dress from French painter Claude Lacaze executed in the Modernist style is sure to sell within the $800-1200 estimate. The lively and colorful “Knight of the Swan” from Russian painter Boris Anisfeld may be a nod to the beloved medieval fable or the famous 19th-century opera Lohengrin (estimate: $2,000-3,000). A gorgeous group of ink and watercolors from artist Henri-Joseph Harpignies is estimated to bring $1,500-2,500 at auction.
